A White Quote

“Books are good company, in sad times and happy times, for books are people – people who have managed to stay alive by hiding between the covers of a book.” – E.B. White

(July 11, 1899 – October 1, 1985)

When E.B. White lived on the East End of Long Island, he had his phone number published in the White Pages. I wanted to talk to him, to receive some wisdom from him, or maybe just to connect with him, but I valued his privacy too much–or, perhaps, I was too shy–and never attempted to contact him.
